The 30 day squat challenge

Okay, this is a seriously cool website I bumped into..

http://30dayfitnesschallenges.com/

It seems perfect for me. I can work any time of the day and all I need to do is a planned 30 day calender. Many benefits!

1)  Zero investment. You just need to print out the plan on a big a3 paper and stick it on a place which you will see every morning, first thing when you are up..
2) Can be done any time of the day
3) No need to think. The piece of paper tells you what to do.
4) No need for a paid personal trainer/gym. Most exercises need some space and some commitment. That is all!
5) And the best part, it has a deadline. The best motivation ever...

:) Totally bril.

I have started on what I think is one of the simpler challenges to ease into it gradually. I have modified it slightly, to keep it interesting and so it doesn't get too easy...

30 day squat challenge + 10 burpees everyday +/- 30min of run/walk everyday.. (( strictly because I want to eventually make running as my go-to major daily exercise routine with a few addits. Because face it, it's simple to do and I do not need any investment. I have a phone with good music and earphones, I buy sports shoes for work on the floor all the time and there is always a park somewhere close, no matter where you live. Perfect long term solution. ))

Day 5 so far and still going strong.

Must say though, squats are pretty quick and no matter how many you do 50 or 200, it will be a quick, no brainer exercise.

You see, the thing is, I know exercises, but they are named all different and I find it quite difficult to link delightful names with the actual exercise. eg: jumping jacks, skater slides, russian twists, wood chops, mountain climbers, seal jacks.... It is almost as colorful as a clinical handover can be. Pure work of art. But the difference is, in a handover, no matter how delightful the description sounds, I know the exact translation. In the world of fitness, I am lost! But, I did not start this to quit. So, going to make a plan and keep banging through it.

30 days sorted. For now.

Catcha on the other end!! :)

Let's start!

So here is how it goes..

I turned 27 this month. Looking in the mirror I think, gee... I feel fat. Step on to the weights and I am dangerously touching 60 kilos. Now, I am a little over 5 feet tall, small built and let me put it this way, 60 kilos doesn't sit well on me. My normal range is in the low 50s.

There would be many out there going - really? Is she serious? This is not fat. But, I am here to tell you that the difference between fat and fit starts with indifference to small changes. Because the smallest of changes can have the biggest of impact. I am not going to ignore this. I plan to nip it in the bud and get fit and keep fit to the best of my capabilities.

I was on an 8 week stretch of night shifts not long ago and that saw me put on a good 5 kilos or more without any effort. That concerned me. Because weird shifts and crazy work hours is my life. I love my job, but clearly its not doing me any fitness favors, if I may say so. Leaving my job is not an option. I need to work with it and be fit at the same time. I joined a gym 3 weeks ago, but I got slacky and besides seeing ripped individuals who know exactly what they are doing threw me off. I felt sloppy and its not a good place for me. I need to make something work for me and noone but me can work that out for me.

I do not have a rich daddy and there is only so much money I can spend. Gyms are expensive and out of budget. Time is limited and not a fixed constant in my life. But I need to make it work.

Birthday resolution time-

Healthier lifestyle with incorporation of some form of exercise into my crazy routine.

This is not a daily journal. This is something to keep me motivated and hopefully, someone out there would read it one day and be inspired.

I am at rock bottom right now (fitness wise) and I would like to think that I can go nowhere but up from here.

What I did for fitness today:

1. Ate clean and healthy meals..
2. Slept good 8 hours (difficult in my line of work)
3. Decided to start a blog and invest in a cheap and flexible exercise routine for myself.

I hope that in an years time when I read this again, my fitness goals would be a thing of reality.
